February 18th
After I finished up with the first 4 sections of my plan I decided to finish up the rest of my plan as it was due handed in to the teacher in 5 days on the 23rd and i still had the risk assessment, method, and the risk assessment in which was needed to be signed. We only needed to have 3 total risks and ways to minimise the risk factor. In my risk assessment I decided to do 4 instead of 3 to list all the possible risks that may arise while doing my experiment. My risk assessment went as follows:
Risk
|
How
this risk will be minimised
|
Beaker/Measuring
Cylinder breaks
|
Wear enclosed
shoes
Wear safety
goggles
Handle with care
Place beaker/measuring
cylinder in the middle of the table so it cannot fall on the ground
Clean up any
broken glass with dust pan or broom, never pick up with your fingers.
|
Hydrochloric acid
is inhaled/ or causes skin irritation
|
Wear apron, and
gloves when handling hydrochloric acid. Pour hydrochloric acid into the measuring
cylinders/beakers over the sink to reduce spillage.
|
Choking
and Ingesting of tablets
|
Keep out of reach
of children. Stay away from the tablets when dissolving.
|
Hydrochloric
acid can create eye damage as it is
toxic
|
Wear safety
goggles.
|
After my risk assessment was complete, it was time to do a brief description of what my method would be for this experiment. My method went as follows:
- Pour 30mL hydrochloric acid into a beaker first measuring it by using a measuring cylinder
- Repeat for other 3 beakers
- Place each tablet into beaker
- Stir 2 times
- Time the results of the amount of time it takes to dissolve for each tablet
- Repeat experiment 3 times for accurate results
